The xenon chloride (XeCl) laser emits a 308 nm monochromatic beam of light. The 308 nm excimer laser can be used to treat plaque psoriasis,4 vitiligo4,5 and early-stage mycosis fungoides.6 Moreover, excimer laser has been reported to be more effective than conventional NB-UVB therapy in treating psoriasis. Although the current mainstay of treatment for AD involves topical therapies for mild cases and systemic agents or conventional UVB phototherapy for moderate-to-severe patients, the 308-nm excimer laser is emerging as a possible new treatment. This article will discuss some emerging and developing resurfacing therapies and treatments that are present today and soon to be available. Treatment of skin disorders using laser technologies dates back to the early 1960s, and quickly became a popular method for improving facial wrinkles, scars, skin growths, and blemishes. Further investigations have explored AFL-drug combinations such as topical methotrexate for psoriasis,24 delivery of therapeutic antibodies for local immunosuppression,25 enhancement of timolol permeation for infantile hemangioma treatment,26 and facilitating the penetration of nanoparticles or liposomes in pharmaceutical delivery systems.
