There are many different types of eczema that produce symptoms and signs ranging from oozing blisters to crusty plaques of skin. Rather than a specific condition, eczema is a group of unrelated diseases that have a similar appearance. In older eczema, chronic eczema, the blisters are less prominent and the skin is thickened, elevated, and scaling. Have Psoriasis? The skin and cartilage of the ear are subject to the same insults as similar tissues found elsewhere in the body. Also, see eMedicineHealth’s patient education articles Sunburn and Types of Psoriasis. Psoriasis (see Psoriasis, Guttate) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder with 2-5 prevalence. Xerotic skin has the appearance of cracked porcelain; the cracks arise from loss of water from the epidermis. Although xerosis can be considered an inflammatory dermatosis because it is often accompanied by erythema and some inflammation, the condition results in large part from physical changes in the skin that occur with normal aging. The treatment of asteatotic eczema is similar to that of xerosis; however, I also prescribe a class V or VI topical corticosteroid that can be added to lactic acid 12 cream or lotion.
