Explosive diaper pustular psoriasis. Pustular psoriasis is a rare, acute form of psoriasiform dermatosis characterized by the widespread eruption of numerous sterile pustules on an erythematous base and associated with constitutional symptoms. It has an explosive onset and a mortality as high as 30 in some of the earlier series. Eruptions in the diaper area are the most common dermatologic problem in infancy. Such eruptions can be subdivided into primary diaper dermatitis, an acute inflammation of the skin in the diaper area with an ill-defined and multifactorial etiology, and secondary diaper dermatitis, a term which encompasses eruptions in the diaper area with defined etiologies. Psoriasis is a long-lasting autoimmune disease characterized by patches of abnormal skin.
